I Will Engage For My Children

The Covenant

"Then He commanded our parents to teach it to their children - So the next generation would know, and all the generations to come - Know the truth and tell the stories so their children can trust in God." (Psalm 78  Msg.)

"This story shall the good man teach his son..."   (Henry V)
"And now a word to you fathers.  Don't make your children angry by the way you treat them.  Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction approved by the Lord."  (Eph. 6:4)
"He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers...."  (Malachi 4:6)

Engaging for our Children.  The stories of struggle and victory from this war should be shared with our children so that they can  grow in faith, have hope, and experience the love of the Father through us.  In this way our children can be trained to engage in their unique and noble causes for Christ.  They represent the next generation of disciples and warriors.  Additionally, they are important to our battles today.  We have so much to learn from the hearts and innocent trust of children.  Jesus tells us to come to Him like children and to have the faith and trust of a child.  Our children often model for us what it means and looks like to be a disciple of Christ.

But as they get older, our children also will follow the temptation to become self-sufficient and to no longer surrender to a higher authority.  If they are not well prepared for the battles that lie ahead, we have missed another essential part of our mission.  The land-mines of sin lead to death.  And few children are taught how to overcome the destruction through surrender, trust, and obedience to Jesus.  Of course our children will suffer their own wounds, but we must prepare our children for battle and help them not to fall into the same traps that at times have taken us out.  By engaging for our children, we can break generational wounds and scars.  We must call out our children for the battles ahead and usher them through their "rights of passage."  It is important for children to hear from their fathers how much they are believed in and how important they are to the mission of God.
